The Strength Not to Fight: An Oral History of Conscientious Objectors of the Vietnam War
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown & Company (July, 1993)
Author: James W. Tollefson
Average review score:

Brilliant and Intimate
By using their own words, Tollefson does a great job of clearing many myths about those who refused to fight in the Vietnam War. Not all characters are sympathetic, but all are real, and this book definitely presents their lives in a way that provokes thought.

Stress Disorders Among Vietnam Veterans: Theory, Research,
Published in Library Binding by Brunner-Routledge (01 May, 1978)
Authors: Charles R. Figley and Charles R. Figley
Average review score:

the author (editor) is Charles R. Figley, Ph.D.
A classic book that was dedicated to Max Cleland, currently the US Senator from Georgia. The Forward was written by Peter Bourne, MD, the senior White House Advior at the time and expert on war-related stress disorders. This book helped to justify the establishment of the Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) diagnosis, the national outreach program for Vietnam veterans, through the VA's Vet Center Program (readjustment counseling), and national awareness that WAR DOES BAD THINGS to both friend and foe. It should be required reading for policy makers who assume that the war is over when it's over. It is not in the minds of those who experienced it first hand.

TANK SERGEANT
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (May, 1994)
Author: Ralph Zumbro
Average review score:

Excellent account of tankers in Vietnam
Tank Sergeant is a very readable account of what it was like to be a tanker in Vietnam. If you are familiar with tank operations in previous wars, you'll be surprised by their use in Vietnam. Good coverage of AFV use as well. Highly recommended.

Ten Thousand Day War: Vietnam: 1945-1975
Published in Paperback by Avon (September, 1982)
Authors: Michael MacLear and Michael MacLean
Average review score:

Very Thorough Read
The Ten Thousand Day War is the best book on the subject I have ever read. As a student who already knew a good bit about the war, it deepened my knowledge, particulary in the French war in Indochina and America's involvement in it. The book is definitely fascinating and was written after the war ended, giving it a retrospective feel. The book is not extremely long but gives you all the information you will need to fully understand why French and American troops fought and died in a country that most people couldnt find on a map and why it is still a huge controversy to this day. Also, the book doesnt shove opinions down your throat, it is a history of the war and allows you to see the war from different viewpoints with reference to many of the important figures of the war. An excellent read that cuts through the controversy with the facts.

The Tet Offensive: Intelligence Failure in War
Published in Paperback by Cornell Univ Pr (July, 1994)
Author: James J. Wirtz
Average review score:

Very detailed review of intelligence failure in Viet-Nam
Jim, a very respected member of the faculty at the Naval Postgraduate School, has provided us with a very well documented study of how the U.S. missed the Tet Offensive in Viet-Name. Among his findings: we knew fully two months in advance at the tactical collection level, with several additional collection successes and some modest analysis successes in the weeks preceding the offensive. We were distracted by Khe Sanh, the commanders did not want to hear it, "intelligence to please" was the standard within the Military Assistance Command Viet-Nam intelligence bureaucracy, and when we finally did grasp, one day before the attack, its true strategic nature, we failed to disseminate the warnings to the tactical commanders with sufficient effectiveness.

Three Faces of Vietnam
Published in School & Library Binding by Franklin Watts, Incorporated (May, 1900)
Author: Richard L. Wormser
Average review score:

Three Faces of Vietnam
Having been stationed in Vietnam during the TET Offensive of 1968, and serving as a medic. I found the book very informative. Many of us were not "up to speed" on the views of those discussed in the book. The military, vietnamese civilian, and the American public's views were well stated in the book and will help anyone who is still confused on the issues. Well done.

Three moons in VietNam, not just a tourist guide.
Hello, my name is LinhVu.

I am deeply touched by The Three Moons in Vietnam. For me, it's not just a guide book for tourists, but a very profound story about my country which I left in 1980 and never return back. Throughout the book, I can revisit my beautiful country, its culture in its very essence and see how my people survive after so many terrible years in the last half of the century. I refound the pictures of my friends, of my family and sometimes a reflection of myself, imagining each ancient city where I had lived, each dirty road I had passed by, each beautiful resorts I have stayed and especially, people that I always had in my mind. I read the book with tears in my eyes and of course, laughs too. I really love the simple style, the sweet heart of the author, her sincerity and especially the humour she patched up now and then into the stories. It's ashame that a native Vietnamien like me still don't have enough detailed knowledges about my country, its history, its marvellous landscape and its people til I read this book. Even there are not much, those details of history surprise me a lot throughout the book and make me very happy. Strongly recommend not just for tourists, but for all Vietnameses who still have a heart for their country too.

Thunder from Above: Air War, 1941-1968 (Vietnam Experience)
Published in Hardcover by Time Life (October, 1984)
Author: John Morrocco
Average review score:

An excellent analysis of the air war in Vietnam
I found this book to be an excellent study of the air war in Vietnam. It focuses both on the technology employed during the war and how it was used. It is further enhanced by personal stories from former pilots, which adds much to the overall story. The reader can gain much insight from this book, and it is highly recommended.

Tiger men : an Australian soldier's secret war in Vietnam
Published in Unknown Binding by Macmillan Co. of Australia ()
Author: Barry Petersen
Average review score:

Vietnam says it all
Tiger Men is a book about an Australian officer (Barry Peterson) who was sent to Vietnam before the war by the CIA. In Vietnam Barry was to create a local militia to defend against the North Vietmanese and VC. During this time he gained the respect of the villagers and tells how the war affected them. I liked the book (being Australian myself) and how Australians can have a better understanding of local people as opposed to the American way of thinking. Like most memories associated Vietnam it is ultimatley a saddening story but it does have rays of hope and will probably make most people rethink their stance on refugees and asylum seekers.
