My Lai Massacre
Published in Hardcover by Story House Corp (June, 1973)
Author: Gerald Kurland
Average review score:

SHORT AND TO THE POINT
On a personal note, I will avoid giving my opinion on the Vietnam War and it's purpose (as I could go on for hours), but simply state that I feel sorry for those who were forced to participate in this bloodbath, and even sorrier for the sick individuals who forced them. This book was rather short but very informing. It was not long winded; yet still explored deeply compared to a book on the entire war or just a textbook. Dipping into the feelings and emotions that the troops in Charlie Company must have felt, which most likely caused them to commit such a vulgar act against the people of My Lai's freedom (which they were supposedly fighting for), and humanity in general. All in all, an easy to read, brief history of The My Lai Massacre.

My War Beyond Vietnam
Published in Paperback by Regal Books (June, 1985)
Author: Roger Helle
Average review score:

A story of a man God destined to be His champion.
I have read this book and seen the author share his testimony at a church in Kansas. A man of impact. One who should be in the forefront of God's kingdom teaching people how to be on the frontline with God. We have used this book to help Viet Nam vets understand that God can help them, and does forgive them, and help them understand that God understands, even when so many forsook them and misunderstood them, God Himself was misunderstood and ridiculed. God love them!

Noble Cause? America and the Vietnam War, A
Published in Textbook Binding by Longman Group USA (11 October, 1999)
Authors: Gerard J. De Groot and Gerald J. DeGroot
Average review score:

A Noble Cause? America and the Vietnam War
This is the most complete book on the subject of some twenty I've read. It is also the most even-handed. It carries enough up-to-date statistics to be an almanac. The bibliography covers all of the most popular and the best books yet written, and his brief comments on them are a guide to which are worthwhile. The scholar will appreciate the thorough index. All this and it remains very readable. He covers the entire war, from the French prelude to the MIA fiasco. The book has so much history laid out in plain English, it amazed me that it was only 391 pages, including excellent maps. It is complete enough to be a text-book but it should be read by everyone who lived thru that era, veterans, protesters and bystanders.

Nobody's Warriors
Published in Paperback by Ivy House Publishing Group (January, 1997)
Author: I. C. Modrick
Average review score:

A firsthand report of what Vietnam was really like.
As I read this book, I was at times thinking this had to be fiction because it could not have been this bad. Mankind is not that cruel. No piece of land was worth all those lives. Yet, we knew the author and knew that this was indeed how it was. Mankind was that cruel. The land wasn't worth all those lives; freedom was! To know what our troops went through and to see how America cast them away is a shame we as Americans can never erase. No apologies will undo the agony witnessed and the horrors of war that this book details in "no holds barred" graphics. A must reading for anyone who never thanked our troops for their stay in Vietnam! I could not put the book down because it was such an eye opener for me. I was like a lot of other Americans who didn't get involved with what was happening "over there" and certainly did not understand, as I do now, what price our troops really paid. I plan to go to the Vietnam Memorial and pray for forgiveness for my apathy.

None Came Home: The War Dogs of Vietnam
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (July, 2001)
Author: John E. O'Donnell
Average review score:

On Working Through Trauma: A Vietnam Combat Handler's Vision
Mr. O'Donnell is a verified USAF Vietnam Combat Veteran/K-9 Sentry Dog Handler who served in U-Tapao, Thailand during his active duty service. SGT O'Donnell's novel represents a dream of what could have been done to restore order from the powerless trauma of what had to be done regarding the U.S. Government's requirement to abandon K-9s at the end of the Vietnam War. It is a poignant piece criss-crossed with hope and hopelessness and potentially represents the way many US K-9 and MWD Teams felt at that time in history. The perceived anguish, search for understanding as well as a means to salute those K-9 counterparts is an excellent read and worth consideration by all individuals familiar with those events in our Nation's history or who experienced similar feelings first-hand of the loss of the K-9s who were and continue to be among our most outstanding yet most unsung heroes throughout all branches of the Armed Forces in all aspects and in all countries involved within the Vietnam War Combat Zone.

North to Canada
Published in Hardcover by Praeger Publishers (February, 1999)
Author: James Dickerson
Average review score:

This is a good read for 'Boomers' that remember this era
I was intrigued by the number of Americans that sought refuge in Canada during the late 60s and early 70s in response to recission of the '2S' deferment. The case studies were particularly interesting with respect to how this disruption of family and career was met with differing degrees of adjustment. I wish that the author had devoted a comparison with American Peace Corps Volunteers who served in places like Atar, Mauritania; Sarh, Tchad; Farah, Afghanistan; Zabol, Iran, or Zinder. Their lives were also disrupted without the comfort of a first world nation like Canada.

Northern Passage: American Vietnam War Resisters in Canada
Published in Hardcover by Harvard Univ Pr (May, 2001)
Author: John Hagan
Average review score:

More case studies should have been added.
This is a sociological study of the Americans who emigrated to Canada during the late 1960s and early 1970s. I believe that there is an attempt to draw an analogy with the Americans who chose Peace Corps service during this period of time with those who went to Canada. This is an invalid comparison. American Peace Corps volunteers served in places like Atar, Mauritania; Qandahar, Afghanistan; Bilma, Niger; Kikwit, Zaire; Sarh, Tchad; and Zabol, Iran. Most of the Americans that went to Canada chose to live in southern Onatrio, viz. Toronto. How many went to Lac St. Jean, Quebec or Churchill, Manitoba? Few. These sites would have been partially commensurate with the difficulty of the Peace Corps sites.

Not Yet at Ease: Photographs of America's Continuing Engagement With the Vietnam War
Published in Hardcover by Capturelife (October, 2002)
Author: David, Ph.D. Chananie
Average review score:

A fitting tribute to a painful time
David Chananie's Not Yet At Ease: Photographs Of America's Continuing Engagement With The Vietnam War employs more than 150 photographs to reflect all of the sides of America's social and political turmoil regarding our participation in the Viet Nam War. Here depicted in historical photography is the agony of the war wound, the triumph over an enemy, the journalist killed while covering the war, the whirlwind of sorrows and the pride of the Wall, and the struggle of Vietnam veterans to keep their memories alive. Thee are battlefield photos from both sides of the conflict, as well as the anti-war protests at home. Some of these photographs have lain unseen for decades within the vaults of the National Archives. Not Yet At Ease is a fitting tribute to a painful time and a recommended addition to personal, school, and community library Photography and 20th Century American History reference collections.

Nuremberg and Vietnam: An American Tragedy.
Published in Hardcover by Times Books (June, 1970)
Author: Telford. Taylor
Average review score:

The best book on war crimes ever written
Literate, precise, comprehensive and understandable. Nobody writes like Taylor. Despite the title, this is really a treatise on the development of the law of war, and a probing analysis of some of the big moral questions it presents. All in 200 pages. A terrific book
